Chargd

Native Mac invoicing for freelancers and tradespeople, buy once, work offline.

Quotes, invoices and clients living entirely on your Mac, no account, no server, no monthly fee. A one-time $49 against the $16 to $29 a month the cloud alternatives charge to send a PDF.

Chargd is invoicing software for people who resent paying a monthly subscription to send a PDF. It’s a native Mac app where quotes, invoices, clients and payments all live in a local database on your own machine, with no account to create and no server to depend on. Open the app and start billing; if your connection drops halfway up a ladder or in a van between jobs, nothing stops working.

The workflow is built around the quote-to-invoice path that trades and freelancers actually use. Send a quote, and once the client signs off it converts into an invoice in a tap without retyping line items. Around that sit recurring invoices for retainer clients, a client list with outstanding balances, credit memos, multi-currency support, bulk PDF export, and five invoice templates with two reserved for Pro. The changelog is public and moving, recurring invoices, multi-currency and bulk export all landed in June 2026.

Pricing is the pitch: download and use it free, then $49 once for Pro, against roughly $16 to $29 a month for the cloud incumbents. Because the data is local, the files outlive the software, there’s no account to lose access to and no export scramble if you stop paying. The tradeoffs are real and stated plainly: it’s macOS only, single machine, single user, so anyone needing web access, a phone app, Windows, or multiple people in the same books at once should look elsewhere.

What we like

  • One payment, no subscription, and the app keeps working if you stop paying
  • Fully offline, so it works on site with no signal and no login
  • Quotes convert straight to invoices without retyping line items

What to watch

  • macOS only, no Windows, mobile or web version
  • Single machine and single user, no cloud sync or team access
