Mosslet is a privacy-first social network built as an alternative to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It’s funded directly by users rather than ads or data sales, with Personal, Family, and Business tiers and a 14-day free trial on each. Every post and memory is protected with asymmetric encryption, and the codebase is open source so anyone can verify how it works.
Founder Mark Thayer built Mosslet solo using Elixir and Phoenix LiveView, after reading Shoshana Zuboff’s The Age of Surveillance Capitalism convinced him to teach himself to code. The company, Moss Piglet Corporation, is a public benefit corporation rather than a venture-backed startup, and Mosslet is the first of two products under that banner.
